America’s concours elegance season began in earnest with the Amelia Island Concours d’ Elegance this past weekend. There are some surprising results, including the Top 10 auction sales at the Concours.
If you fell in love with the Ferrari 488 but didn’t get one, you now have the luxury of more choices. You could get on a wait list for its replacement, the F8 Tributo that debuted on March 5 at the Geneva Auto Show. Or, you could take your pick from all the 458s and 488s that will be traded in for the new car.
RM Sotheby’s is offering the opportunity to acquire a 1965 911 at its Amelia Island Concours sale. The car, in Aga Blue over beige, shows under 80,000 miles and has a pre-sale estimate of $210k-$250k.
Bonhams will offer a 1913 Mercer 35J Raceabout at its Amelia Island sale, with a pre-sale estimate of $800k-$1m. A Raceabout offered at auction is a rarity; many have remained in the same collectors’ hands for decades.
At its 2019 Amelia Island Concours sale, Gooding & Company will offer one of the 15 Porsche 924 Carrera GTS Clubsport models built, with a pre-sale estimate of $250k-$300k. This particular 924 was originally a Porsche press vehicle.
Porsche made just 345 of its 1995-1997 Turbo S models, and if you were not one of the 176 American customers to get one, Gooding & Company is offering a stunning ’97 with 11,400 miles at its Amelia Island sale. The pre-sale estimate is $425k-$475k.
RM Sotheby’s Amelia Island auction is offering a 2000 550 Maranello with just 4,200 miles and a pre-sale estimate of $140k-$160k, with no reserve. That’s right in between Hagerty’s values for “Excellent” and “Concours” condition and still below the car’s original price.
After adding an 8C to your collection, consider Alfa Romeo has a new one in the works. Announced in July 2018, the next 8C will be a mid-engine supercar with a version of the Giulia Quadrifoglio’s twin-turbo 2.9-liter V6 mated to a hybrid system, for a possible 700+ total horsepower.
It’s been five years since Lamborghini introduced the Huracán. For 2020, the standard Coupe evolves into the appropriately named Evo, inheriting the track-oriented Huracán Performante model’s 631-hp version of the V10 engine and some chassis tech from the Aventador S.
