The Amelia Island Concours d’Elegance has a new owner. The move follows Hagerty’s purchase of the Concours d’Elegance of America earlier this year, and, the California Mille road tour in 2020 and the Greenwich Concours d’Elegance in 2019.
When many think of the Mercedes-Benz 300 SL, they perhaps think first of the coupe that absolutely stunned the automotive world when Mercedes introduced it at the New York Auto Show in 1954. Its gull-wing doors that opened upward into the roof gave it the iconic nickname that has been inseparable ever since.
This past April, 25th-28th, the west coast’s tribute to the historic Mille Miglia wound its way though 1000 miles of California countryside. Now in its 26th year, the California Mille is a vintage road rally for cars that would have been eligible for the original Italian street race.
This week, residents of southern and central California are being treated to the rattle and hum of the 26th anniversary of the California Mille. The drive amounts to 1,000 miles of the best backroads in California, through the hills and beside the Pacific Coast.
