Now in its 20th year, RM Sotheby’s Amelia Island hopes to cement its superiority in sell-through rate and top-tier consignments. 2018’s docket is a perfect example, with 100 classic automobiles for sale, 11 of which are predicted to fetch 7 figures.
The 2018 Amelia Island Concours d’Elegance is the first major competition of the automotive year, bringing with it 225 of the finest pre-1974 automobiles ever assembled.
At its Amelia Island auction, Gooding & Company will offer an exemplary rendition of this ultra-rare and prized Ferrari, a 1956 410 Superamerica Series I that’s had only three owners and under 7,500 miles from new. It has been restored twice. The pre-sale estimate is $5m-$6m.
The dual-SL strategy was genius, as those who felt tempted by the Gullwing’s design but unable to afford its $7,300 price could buy something with a similar look for a little more than half that. Or, it made the perfect addition to the garage for those already buying a 300 SL!

The RM Sotheby’s Amelia Island auction will offer a 1936 Mercedes-Benz 540K Cabriolet B. This is a so-called “early” Cabriolet B, which retains 500K-style bodywork, including vertical louvers on the hood sides, but with certain 540K features, including the bumpers. The Cabriolet B was distinguished by its four-passenger interior, with a comfortable rear seat for two, and a soft top with rear quarter windows.
