Ford vs Ferrari’s racecar sports hero Carroll Shelby is know for beating the racing establishment with simpler, less expensive and sometimes cruder machinery. He got his racing start driving other peoples’ cars and went on to build a business empire that has continued and grown beyond his death.
Ferrari made the 250 GT Berlinetta TdF from 1956-1958, replacing it with the 250 GT SWB Berlinetta. Gooding & Company will offer a 1958 model at its Monterey auction next month, with a $5.5m-$6m pre-sale estimate.
