Monterey 2015 – The Year of Ferrari
In 2015, Concorso Italiano will once again be a key event of Monterey Automobile Week. Concorso Italiano’s unique format features more than 800 vehicles of Italian origin, and this year includes a reunion gathering for over twenty 250 GTE owners. The Classic Ferrari display is one of the treasured traditions of Concorso Italiano’s event and for 2015 the organizers will celebrate this great marque as the Centerpiece Display of the entire event. Eligible classic Ferraris are the 246 GTS Dino and older models.
Reunion Gathering of 250 GTEs
As a part of the celebration of Ferrari, Concorso Italiano is pleased to be hosting a reunion gathering for 250 GTE owners. Despite such elegant styling, many 250 GTEs fell into disuse and disrepair and indeed some were sacrificed to form the basis of replicas of the two-seaters. By current count, it is believed that 166 GTEs have been made into something else. On a more positive note it is estimated that there are still about 375 GTEs in existence and the really good news is that more are being discovered, or re-discovered as their perceived value increases.
Right now Concorso has 18 cars confirmed for the 2015 reunion of GTEs with another 5 expected. The cars will cover the full field of condition and history. There will be original cars that have been in long-term ownership right through to cars that are fresh from the restoration shop. It will be fascinating to compare these vehicles and to track changes in the models which were subject to almost continual development during the build process, as this was Ferrari’s first true production model. Attendees will want to be sure to view and celebrate the history and elegance of Ferrari’s first 2+2 grand tourer.
