RM Sotheby’s Scottsdale Auction next week will offer over 80 lots, including a rare 1993 Ciezeta V16T. Our Sales Managers picked their top pics, from Marques such as Ferrari, Lamborghini, Mercedes-Benz, and BMW.
This year, the Scottsdale Auctions will not all be in January, nor are all in Scottsdale. RM Sotheby’s and Bonhams will both be in Scottsdale in January, while Worldwide Auctions in Indiana in January. Additionally, Gooding & Company will be strictly online auctions this month. The “Elkhart Collection” is no more. RM Sotheby’s offered all of them at no reserve and brought in $44.3m. The top sale was a 1952 Ferrari 225 S Berlinetta by Vignale, which brought in $2.8m, followed by 1953 Fiat 8V Supersonic by Ghia $2.04m.
This summer, RM Sotheby’s, Bonham’s, and Gooding & Company hosted online auctions in place of their usually scheduled Monterey events. Topping the list of cars sold at these auctions are a 2001 Ferrari V12 berlinetta that sold for $4.29 million at RM and a 1966 Ferrari 275 GTB “long nose,” which sold for $3.08m at Gooding & Co.
Without Monterey Car Week to anchor August and usher the automotive hobby toward fall, the Petersen Automotive Museum stepped up to take the action online. Petersen Car Week Presented by Michelin will run August 12-16, bringing worldwide YouTube viewers a stream of video content. The includes the Petersen Concours d’ Elegance, car shows, auctions and eight vehicle debuts.
From August 13th-15, RM Sotheby’s will be hosting their Shift/Monterey Online Only Auction. Checkout the cars industry experts are most looking forward to seeing, including a Ferrari, vintage Bugatti and Jaguar.
Most collector-car auction houses already offered absentee bidding options and live streaming auctions as part of regular operations, the safety and travel restrictions posed by COVID-19 spurred the industry to apply creative solutions.
