A Rising Star in the Concours Constellation
For the past two years, Ramapo College has played host to a Concours d’Elegance in support of the college and a nearby teaching hospital. The quality of cars entered promises to continue turning this up-and-coming display into a regular stop on the show circuit. A well-versed committee weeds through applications to keep the entrant vehicles among the finest in the world. While Italian classics are a staple of this concours, the smaller venue has allowed for specific marques and models to steal the show.
Last year’s show featured classes for pre-1968 Jaguars, air-cooled Porsches, and a celebration of the venerable Mercedes SL. In addition to classes for all vintages of Lamborghinis and Ferraris, race and rally cars, 60s American Muscle, and the perennial crowd favorite – microcars – will be present at this year’s event. In honor of BMW’s centennial, M-cars and the iconic 2002 will be prominently featured as well. A Sunday Car Cruise parades these vintage beauties around town while treating entrants to the area’s most scenic roads.
For a Good Cause
A truly charitable event, all proceeds from the Ramapo Concours d’Elegance serve the Ramapo College and Hackensack University Medical Center – the largest provider of inpatient and outpatient services in New Jersey. This nonprofit hospital has grown to be the main provider of heathcare for Northern New Jersey and the NY metropolitan area thanks to charitable events like the Ramapo Concours. Open to the public with all-but free admission, there’s no reason not to spend the day admiring pristine automobiles for such a good cause.
