The Sports Car Vintage Racing Association
On the weekend of September 18-20 the Sports Car Vintage Racing Association, well known in the vintage automobile industry, will present The 2015 Coronado Speed Festival. This year’s festival features three days of vintage racing, car shows, a pit crew challenge and military displays staged on the runways of the Coronado North Island Naval Air Station.
The Naval Base Coronado Benefits
Taking place during the annual Fleet Week, The Coronado Speed Festival (“The Race at the Base”) is celebrating its 18th year. Thousands of race enthusiasts and fans attend to salute our nation’s military and support our servicemen and women and their families. This is the only Navy Open House on the West Coast each year. The Naval Base Coronado is home to over 20,000 active duty military and the event proceeds go toward supporting the Base. According to Sports Car Vintage Racing Association, the general public rarely gets a glimpse of the naval base so this annual event is certainly one-of-a-kind and not to be missed.
The Ride
The twisty, 1.7-mile course utilizes runways and taxiways of the Naval Air Station and provides a unique challenge for competitors, as well as exciting racing for the spectators. A special feature race for NASCAR Stock Cars is certain to be the highlight of the weekend.
This unique event has become a very popular vintage event on the West Coast, and SVRA is committed to making the 2015 Festival the biggest and best ever. The Coronado Speed Festival is an invitational race.
